What challenges led to engaging concentis?

  • 1. As a self-perform project for an owners team the nature of the work was complex and detailed with no earthworks contractor.
  • 2. A broad cross section of skills was required to enable the successful execution of the project.
  • 3. Rio Tinto ’ s core business is mining not Construction so Concentis were required to resource the project delivery team with contractors with both owners team and contractor experience.
  • 4. Flexibility was essential given the project was scheduled to run for 14 months with no guarantee of further work beyond that.

Concentis success:

From a people perspective Concentis got the right people with the right skills and quickly. The scale of the job for a company like Rio Tinto is unheard off, so given the quantity of work to be done, the people and skills were vitally important for the safety, schedule, and cost to enable successful delivery.

Eight roles requested to be filled and eight roles filled these included:

  • H&S x2.
  • Mechanical works supervisor x2.
  • Civil Earthworks super x2.
  • Project Engineer x2.

  • Early planning and engagement with concentis to build a team with the right skillset to ensure execution was successful.
  • Fast and efficient assembly of a leading project team.
  • Zero performance-related issues or staff turnover from Concentis contractors.
  • No time lost on the project due to injuries to contractor workforce.
  • Project completed on time and under budget.
  • 30% of staff were retained by Rio Tinto for future work following project completion.
  • Remaining 70% of the workforce were redeployed to new projects with leading Concentis clients.
