The company Concentis is partnering with Gladstone Area Water Board (GAWB) to source a Hatchery Technician to join their team at Aquaculture Gladstone.
The Gladstone Area Water Board (GAWB) is a commercial Statutory Authority whose purpose is to supply water in bulk to major consumers in the Gladstone Region. Those consumers comprise major industries, power generating organisations, and the Gladstone Regional Council. GAWB manages a variety of assets ranging from major water storage through to pump stations, pipelines, storage tanks and water treatment plants and operates and maintains recreational facilities including a fish fingerling hatchery and associated stocking program.
Their vision is to deliver safe and reliable water services to enhance the liveability of the region.
The role Reporting to the Hatchery and Fishery Manager, this position supports the daily operations of GAWB’s Hatchery and Fishery. Your overall responsibilities will include, undertaking routine tasks related to the management of brood stock, production of live prey, larval rearing and nursery activities to ensure GAWB achieves the Fisheries Management Plan and production objectives.
- Assist with managing, maintaining and reporting on hatchery brood stock (Barramundi, Mangrove Jack, Sea Mullet)
- Support with production of live prey (rotifers, artemia)
- Fingerling production, larval rearing and nursery activities
- Conduct daily health observations, feed preparations
- Maintain water delivery and equipment
- Monitor and report on water quality, tank environments, production cycles
- Maintain biosecurity and disease management
- Maintain and perform minor repairs on grounds and equipment
- Complete operational, maintenance, and administrative tasks to ensure regulatory compliance
About You: - Qualifications in Aquaculture, Marine Science or related discipline
- Current C Class Drivers License
- Coxswain Ticket or Boat License desirable, but not essential
- Demonstrated experience within aquaculture or marine science environment, specifically working with fin fish
- Proficient in collating and recording data and preparing reports
- Intermediate skills within the MS Office Suite, Office 365 and SharePoint
- Ability to participate in a work roster and on-call duties as required
