Our client is focused on delivering world-class mining projects that contribute to sustainable development. As a Study Specialist, you will lead capital and closure project studies from initiation to feasibility, ensuring safe, cost-effective, and high-quality outcomes while working collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
This role is on a 12 month contract with potential for extension, and the roster is 4 weeks on (internationally), and 2 weeks off, flying from Brisbane.
Accountabilities - Study Planning and Execution:
o Establish the scope of studies (projects) in line with stakeholder requirements, including defining milestones and budgets.
o Secure necessary study approvals from appropriate parties.
o Implement study guidelines according to the approved scope, which may involve managing multiple work streams and coordinating with diverse stakeholders across the organisation.
o Ensure studies are delivered within the approved scope, timeline, budget, and quality standards.
o Develop detailed estimates and plans for end-to-end project execution.
o Provide expert technical guidance and support to study stakeholders.
o Capture and share lessons learned to inform future projects.
o Lead Study Advisors and oversee external contractors or consultants to ensure studies are delivered within the agreed timelines, scope, cost, and quality criteria.
o Collaborate with financial experts to perform high-level financial analyses, including cash flow projections, return on investment (ROI), and net present value (NPV) calculations. - Stakeholder Engagement:
o Develop and implement an effective stakeholder engagement plan throughout the study lifecycle.
o Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders to foster collaboration, participation, and continuous improvement.
o Engage with key stakeholders, including project sponsors, asset owners, and cross-functional teams, to gather input, provide updates, share findings, and gain buy-in for recommendations. - Tracking and Reporting:
o Monitor study (project) status and manages issues and risks effectively.
o Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations summarising study outcomes, tailored to various levels of reporting.
o Track and report all relevant study performance indicators to meet business requirements.
o Identify and escalate any delivery performance issues promptly.
o Compile and analyse data for management reporting and metrics.
About You - Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field; an MBA and project management certifications are preferred, in addition to an engineering background.
- Over 5 years of experience in study and project management, with a focus on capital and closure projects.
- Strong understanding of project management methodologies and tools (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project).
- Experience with SharePoint, Microsoft Excel, project management software, Power BI, and other analysis and reporting tools.
- Proven leadership, stakeholder engagement, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with environmental and safety standards in mining or construction.
- Ability to work in achieving tight deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
