Full Job Description
This is an opportunity to apply your practical building, construction and maintenance knowledge to deliver condition assessment and inspection services across Queensland Government assets throughout the Mt Isa and wider North Queensland region.

You will inspect and assess the condition of government buildings and facilities, identify defects and determine likely causes, risks and appropriate rectification requirements. You will translate your findings into clear, practical documentation, including condition assessments, maintenance reports, scopes of work and pricing estimates.

The role will service customers across the Gregory, Flinders and Traeger electorates, extending to the Northern Territory and South Australian borders and Mornington Island in the Gulf of Carpentaria. The position may involve overnight travel of up to two weeks at a time, with travel undertaken by road, plane and potentially boat. The region includes remote and Indigenous communities such as Mornington Island and Doomadgee.
You will work across a diverse portfolio of government assets and facilities, supporting effective maintenance planning, prioritisation and asset management outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
• Coordinate and undertake high-quality condition assessments, including inspections, surveys and pricing estimates of building elements and construction materials
• Inspect buildings and assess the condition of building assets
• Identify defects across roofs, walls, ceilings, floors and structures
• Assess doors, windows, waterproofing, drainage and other building elements
• Identify issues with electrical, plumbing, HVAC and fire services and recognise when specialist technical advice or licensed trades are required
• Determine likely causes of defects, associated risks and appropriate rectification requirements
• Develop clear scopes of work, pricing estimates and practical maintenance recommendations
• Prepare inspection reports, condition assessments, maintenance reports and maintenance records
• Record findings to support maintenance planning, prioritisation and asset management
• Undertake tenancy and property inspection services and identify maintenance requirements and referrals
• Collect samples of suspected asbestos-containing materials for laboratory testing, where required and within relevant training and safety requirements
• Maintain accurate documentation and communicate findings clearly to a diverse range of stakeholders
• Maintain a healthy and safe work environment and comply with relevant workplace health and safety, employment equity and anti-discrimination requirements
• Work safely around potential asbestos-containing materials and follow relevant procedures and controls


About you
You will have a practical building, construction or maintenance background, with the ability to assess building condition, identify defects and recommend practical solutions.

You will ideally have:
• A construction industry-related trade qualification, preferably in carpentry, building or maintenance
• Proven experience conducting building inspections, condition assessments or maintenance assessments
• Strong practical understanding of building defects, construction materials and maintenance requirements
• Ability to identify defects, determine likely causes and assess associated risks
• Experience developing scopes of work, maintenance recommendations and/or pricing estimates
• Broad understanding of building services, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC and fire services
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
• Ability to use computer-based programs and systems, including Excel, Microsoft Office, Teams and PDF applications
• Current Workplace Health & Safety General Safety Induction Card (White Card)
• Current driver’s licence
• Asbestos awareness or relevant non-friable asbestos training is highly desirable
• Willingness and ability to undertake regular regional and remote travel, including overnight travel of up to two weeks
• Ability to work safely and professionally across remote locations and Indigenous communities
